Wild Child - A Tribute to The Doors - Saturday Feb. 27th
Wild Child - A Tribute to The Doors
Wild Child is a Los Angeles based act with 20 solid years of performance in the competitive L.A. Music Scene. Faithfully re-creating a live Doors Concert on stage. This is not a typical Doors tribute band! The music is painstakingly reproduced and combined with the voice, look and essence of Jim Morrison live on stage (performed by lead singer Dave Brock). Wild Child mirrors the depth, energy and emotion of The Doors concerts as they were live back in the late 1960's. The Band also utilizes the same musical instruments live as The Doors did over 35 years ago. Wild Child performs internationally, playing to packed venues around the globe.
Front man, Dave Brock, started his role as the Lizard King by grabbing the lead in the" Jim Morrison Rock Opera," produced by the late legends sister, Anna Morrison Graham. Anna personally selected Brock for the part. From there, he started the band "Wild Child," whose reputation rapidly spread from Southern California to remote areas of the world. The Doors keyboardist, Ray Manzarek, introduced Wild Child to a packed Los Angeles crowd at the bands first show at The Whisky a-Go-Go on July 3rd, 1986. Wild Child broke into the national act venue circuit before any other tribute act, selling out countless shows from its beginning to the present. In the late 80s, Brock was under consideration to play the lead actor in the Oliver Stone movie "The Doors." Many experts have complimented his stage rendition of Jim Morrison, some of which are listed on the Press page of this site. Concert goers leave Wild Child concerts in amazement and disbelief, many of which are quoted here at Fan Reviews. The band relies on stage craft and musicianship to create an event that people will remember, without corn ball antics and banter that many tribute bands incorporate.
Two years ago the band produced "Wild Child - Live In Concert" a 22 song double disc CD set of songs that The Doors made popular on stage as well as songs from their last album that they were never able to perform live with Jim Morrison, due to his unexpected death. Recorded 100% live, this CD set can be purchased and MP3 clips can be heard on the Wild Child live double CD page of this site. Below is what one expert said about the CD set :

… [Wild Child's live CD] has been in production for over a year as lead singer David Brock has sought perfection on each and every song. I honestly think that this recording could get passed off to even a seasoned collector as being a new unheard Doors live show from the 1960's. It's the most incredible re-creation that I have ever heard"

The Kara Turner Band

Kara Turner Band
“When I’m singing the blues on stage and I see the smiling faces of our fans, I feel a real connection to the crowd. I know that they’re relating to what I’m saying and I’m evoking a positive—and always emotional—response. It’s such an uplifting experience to feel this charge of energy! The crowd has fun…the band has fun—it’s what I am most passionate about in life. I love it!”

KARA TURNER- Lead Singer
The band is fronted by the dynamic presence and soulful charm of acclaimed singer, Kara Turner. Comparisons in the world of musical artists are never really fair but Kara is Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt and Susan Tedeschi all rolled into one with the compelling stage presence of Stevie Nicks and Sheryl Crow. Kara has played with Rudy Lewis (Drifters), Rick Derringer, Lisa Zanghi, Andy Wallow Group, John Moss, Ricochet, Jason Cooper, Connie Reeves, PUSH, Shed Illusion and more.

Glenn Stacey
Blues, Rock a Billy, Top 40 oldies but goodies, are among the signature sounds of tenor sax player Glenn Stacey.   From the sax solos in almost every top 40, late 50s and early 60s songs, the sound of artists such as King Curtis and Boots Randolph couldn't be ignored by Glenn.  The music was inspiring to the point that learning to play and emulate these artists became obsession to Glenn.

Bill Hayes
The bottom end of the Wig family is anchored by Flea-like bassist Bill Hayes. Bill is an artist who has always appreciated embraced the primitive musical roots that wrapped around him early on, when he played with his first garage band in the ’60s while attending Redondo High School (a band he admittedly still jams with, “when the other surviving members can gather up their instruments along with their aluminum walkers and oxygen tanks!”). Those crazed early influences translate to Bill’s stage presence: wild, perpetual motion a lot more reminiscent of Bootsy than of the staid Bill Wyman or John Entwistle types.

Joe Campbell
has been a sideman playing guitar for many classic rock groups for over 35 years with such groups as The Drifters, The Platters, The Dixie Cups, The Tokens,The Coasters,Johnny Thunder,Doug Kershaw,Cheryl Ladd,Dennis Weaver,The Diamonds,The Fortunes,Tommy Sands and Wilson Pickett to name a few. His recording credits include commercials for Pepsi, Motel 6, McDonalds,Holiday Inn and many more. Joe worked with country music singer Johnny Lee (Looking For Love In All The Wrong Places) “Urban Cowboy”, from 1991 to 1995 along with the Western Union Band.

Brian Mahoney
is a California based musician who has been playing drums for more than 30 years.  He studied at both Long Beach City College and Cal State University Long Beach as well as privately with some of L.A.’s most esteemed players and instructors.

While in college he played in percussion and jazz ensembles, orchestras and concert bands.  Since then he has been playing professionally; working in several different musical groups including Disneyland’s house band Voyager at the Tomorrowland Terrace Stage for 20 years.  This same group has also played for Buena Vista, Touchstone Pictures, Toyota, the Long Beach Grand Prix and Universal Studios in Osaka, Japan in addition to numerous private events and other corporations.

More recently he has been doing freelance work, including at Universal Studios Hollywood, in addition to working with his own band, The Neurotic Dogs who can be seen regularly at the Queen Mary in Long Beach.

Brian is also a private instructor in all styles of drum set, both out of his home and through various music stores.
